Felipe Padilla de Leon - Payapang Daigdig - Peaceful World (1946) • Augusto Espino (piano), Arwin Tan conducting the Novo Concertante Manila • ------------------ • de Leon's Payapang Daigdig was written at the end of World War 2. There is a famous legend about the creation of this piece: The composer supposedly wrote the work when he saw the great destruction of his home city after the final battle of Manila in February of 1945. In reality, he composed the work as a commemoration of the creation of the United Nations in 1946. • The work is cast in ABA form, with the first part being the most known section of the piece. Part A (Andantino) talks about the peacefulness of the night, while Part B (Piu Animato) is about the Nativity. • In most performances and arrangements of the work, only the first part was played and it was the part that became very known and popular among the people. • Due to its popularity, it has been compared to Silent Night and is often called the Silent Night of the Philippines. • ------------------ • Recording: https://www.amazon.com/Tatlong-Ipe-Di... • My blog on Philippine Music: https://vesteel.blogspot.com/
