A new breed of SUV from Citroen... • The new Citroen e-C4X is a really interesting car, because in some ways, it breaks completely new ground for Citroen, and in other ways, it’s an example of the company doing exactly what it’s done countless times before. • Allow us to explain. It breaks new ground because it’s the first Citroen model that will only be offered – in the UK at least – as an all-electric car. And yet, it’s the same-old-Citroen in that its quirky design comes as a result of taking elements from lots of different types of vehicle and mashing them up into something unique. There’s compact dimensions of a family hatchback, the raised ride height and visual chunkiness of an SUV, the swoopy roofline of a coupe, and there’s also a bit of saloon car in there. • Citroen has got lots of form with doing this sort of thing, most recently with cars like the C5 X, which has much the same greatest-hits-style design, but is a bit bigger. But when you factor in the electric-only status of the e-C4 X, however, does smashing all these niches together make this car a niche too far? • What's more, do the numbers stack up?
