Wayzata Legion Baseball Opens Gopher Classic With Win

The Wayzata American Legion baseball team won its opening game in the Gopher Classic tournament Friday morning, shutting out Orono/Maple Plain 3-0. Wayzata’s Quin Ask pitched six and 2/3 innings of scoreless ball, striking out 12. Noah Regan and Noah Karschnik both drove in runs for the Wizards. Wayzata is one of 96 teams playing in the Gopher Classic this weekend. Each of the six teams in the sixteen pools play in a round-robin format through Sunday. Wayzata’s games this weekend are all at Poppitz Field in Victoria. The 16 site winners then advance to the Round of 16 beginning Monday morning at one of four metro-area sites.
