What is Sansamed? • We at Sansamed know that medicine can be difficult at times, understanding basic medical concepts and processes can be very frustrating which brings us to our main goal which will be to produce videos that hopefully would make medicine simpler and more fun to understand. • What is the immune system: • The immune system is an organisms defense mechanism against pathogens (disease inducing microorganisms such as virus, bacteria, fungi, parasites, prions). Our immune system is divided into 2 major parts: innate and adaptive in which we have multiple cells and proteins that constantly works with neutralizing and removing countless pathogens that attack us on daily basis. • • What are types of macrophages? • Macrophages can differ from each other by presence of their location on certain areas and/or some special feature and therefore we differentiate them based on different types. These are foamy cells, hemosiderin cells (heart failure cells), epitheloid cells, Langerhans giant cells, Touton giant cells and foreign giant cells. • • Download the slides and related material from our website.
