According to the company RoboKiller, Americans received an estimated 58 billion robocalls in 2019. Robokiller is an app that answers the spam calls and then pranks the caller on the other end. Ethan Garr, senior vice president at RoboKiller, joins Squawk Box to discuss the rise in spam calls and how Robokiller proposes to stop them. • Robocalls are at an all-time high. On average, Americans received more than 2,000 robocalls every second in October, up 25% from the previous month. With 49 billion robocalls so far this year, all four major U.S. phone carriers now offer some form of blocking or screening service. T-Mobile, for example, uses a “Scam Likely” label. Congress and state officials passed new robocall regulations in recent months and have seen an uptick in successful cases against the scammers. Meanwhile, hundreds of tech start-ups are developing new ways to tackle the problem. • For access to live and exclusive video from CNBC subscribe to CNBC PRO: https://www.cnbc.com/pro/?__source=yo... • • » Subscribe to CNBC TV: https://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBCtelevision • » Subscribe to CNBC: https://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC • » Subscribe to CNBC Classic: https://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBCclassic • • Turn to CNBC TV for the latest stock market news and analysis.
