How To Upgrade the Rigol DS1054Z Oscilloscope Firmware

I was missing the Full display feature, and discovered my oscilloscope's firmware was outdated. I decided to make a How-To video, since I couldn't find anything specific for this series of Rigol oscilloscopes. I also included video of what happens during a self-cal, so you know what to expect. I hope this helps someone. • Here's a step-by-step video on how to perform the firmware (FW) upgrade. The FW upgrade was easy, but performing the self-calibration was a pain. It took me 4 tries, so if yours fail also, keep performing the self-cal until it passes. You should be able to see what happen through the entire self-calibration, on my 4th try. • Below are some time markers, if you just want to go straight to a particular section: • 00:00:34 Downloading the Firmware • 00:02:48 Checking your oscilloscope's current firmware version • 00:03:04 Upgrading the firmware • 00:04:43 Check for new firmware version • 00:05:02 1st Calibration try (failed about 8 minutes into the self-cal) • 00:06:48 2nd Calibration try (nothing happened for over 30 minutes, so it was cancelled) • 00:09:04 3rd Calibration try (the self-cal went farther, this time, but failed 18min into it) • 00:12:11 4th and successful calibration try!
