Premillennialism A Detraction from the Centrality of Christ

Premillennialism, a theory focused on Jesus physically reigning over an eschatological Israel--and through them reigning over the world, anticipates future blessings for all nations as mediated through a reconstituted Israel in a future 1,000 year kingdom. Dispensationalists highlight an ethnic Israelite-centered view, seeing a genealogical/ethnocentric people of Israel as fulfilling Bible prophecy. In contrast, historic premillennialists believe in an eschatological Israel comprised of believers from all nations and time periods (i.e. Noah, Abraham, the church, etc), along with the possibility of mass-converted Jews at Jesus' second coming. • Jesus is believed to govern Israel and the world from a physical place on the earth, possibly with a rebuilt temple and/or resumption of ancient Mosaic law practices. However one defines the eschatological Israel, it is argued that the premillennial view detracts from the centrality of Jesus Christ and the fulfillment of biblical promises. Premillennialists propose that the blessings available in a future millennial reign, as mediated through the eschatological Israel, will be greater than the blessings available now as mediated through Christ and His body--the Church. • However, a Christocentric perspective emphasizes Jesus as the culmination of Israel's promises, emphasizing mankind's greatest blessings in and through Him. The video argues that the already-inaugurated New Covenant encompasses both spiritual and material blessings which will be consummated at the second coming, rejecting the need for a future restored Israel mediating God's blessings to nations. Believers can experience the benefits of the Kingdom of God through Jesus in the present, while the full consummation of these promises will occur in the future.
