Janusz Popławski Ork. K. F. Wilkoszewskich – Ninon, Slow- fox z f-mu „Zdobyć cię muszę” (from Jan Kiepura film „Tout pour l’Amour”) (Jurmann, Kaper – Halicz), Cristal-Electro 1933 (Polish) • NOTE: Janusz POPŁAWSKI (1898 – 1971) was a popular operetta – and radio performer in Warsaw during the 1930s. His bright well trained tenor voice would have made a front page operatic star of him, however Popławski preferred a lighter repertoire. As the recording artist he was beating records in waxing dozens of really good renditions of popular hits and operetta arias for Columbia, Odeon and Cristal-Electro. After the 2nd WW he successfully continued his radio performances as well as the recording career. The Cristal-Electro records was a smaller record production in prewar Poland, its recordings being of a minor quality comparer to Odeon or Syrena-Electro. Probably, the lack of well-equipped recording studio was the reason of it, as well as a smaller budget which limited their possibilities to bring the first-row dance orchestras to Cristal-Electro recording sessions. However, a very good although little known dance band by Jerzy Lederman, which often recorded popular dance hits for Cristal-Electro, did not bring stain to Cristal-Electro’s history.    • Polish foxtrot 1933: Duet Corda   Ork...   Such good opinion alas, can’t be expressed about the Wilkoszewskis’ dance band, which accompanies Popławski in this rendition of the world – hit “Ninon” (first presented by famous Polish tenor Jan Kiepura in his 1933 musical-movie “Tout pour l'amour”). Banal arrangement as well as occasional interferences of the background brass with the singer’s voice are the failures of this recording
