The mridangam is the classical double sided drum of South India and is used as an accompaniment for vocal, instrumental and dance performances. The term mridangam is derived from the sanskrit words Mrid Ang which literally means Clay-Body, indicating that it was originally made of clay. • A removable patch of tuning paste is affixed to each end, giving the drum a definite pitch. The left head is usually tuned an octave lower than the right. The drum is held across the lap and played on both ends with the hands and fingers. A similar instrument, the pakhavaj, is played in the Hindustani tradition of northern India, as well as in Pakistan and Bangladesh. • Click below to Subscribe to our Channel for Regular Videos! - • http://www.youtube.com/user/superaudi... • To Watch Other Videos on Learn To Play Mridangam - •    • About the Mridangam - Mridangam Basic...   • Become a Music Instruments Fan on Facebook: •   / 596838210428286   • Visit our official website! • http://www.musicandchants.com/ • Connect with us: • Google+: https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/1016849... • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/superaudioma... • Twitter:   / musicandchants   • iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/su... • • Find us on •   / navindaswani5
