Never a dull moment - I've run out of assembled Chronograph Steampunk Clocks... • The joy of making, painting and assembling a steampunk machine - it doesn't get much better than this. There are well over 100 parts that go into making a Chronograph and I love every part of the process; from laser cutting acrylic to laser engraving the dials and numbers; from 3D printing pressure cylinder tops from metallic brass filament, to painting everything in proper steampunk colours; it really is most enjoyable. • I'd already made 20 wooden bases, each engraved with its own number, so now it's time to make all the other components that go into a steampunk clock. I particularly enjoy gluing the engraved hour numbers into the hour display gear. They are all tear shaped, so can only fit the right way round. Three spots of superglue and job done, only there's 240 to do, so time to put on a good film and sit back and start sticking! • It's also very satisfying drilling and tapping laser cut acrylic parts, especially before they've been painted, as you can see the drills drilling and the taps tapping! • I keep forgetting I have a 3D printer with metallic filament, so it's exciting to discover some parts can be printed rather than laser cut - any excuse to use the wonderful 3D Builder (available free to anyone with Windows 10). • This sort of project also provides the opportunity to create super-improved jigs to solve seemingly impossible problems - it feeds my unnatural love of jigs.
