But company engineers felt that there were still improvements that could be made most notably in terms of ball speed and distance which were the top priorities when it came to designing the new G400 driver. And there are multiple technologies utilized in the G400 that are creating more ball speed and distance for players. First the G400 features a more streamlined design and at 445cc there is 15 percent less drag created on the downswing which equates to increased clubhead speed. Its clubface also has undergone a forging process that makes it thinner and more flexible without any loss of strength. More specifically the face is six percent thinner and 16 percent more flexible a combination that gives golfers more ball speed from all impact locations. What’s most impressive however is that even with the more streamlined compact design the G400 is even more forgiving than its predecessors and can claim more than 9000 MOI points. Fueling the high level of forgiveness is Dragonfly Technology which enabled a lightweight crown and skirt that gave designers discretionary weight that was used to establish a low deep CG position. Additionally a strategically placed tungsten sole weight optimizes stability and launch conditions. Also different for the G400 when compared to the G30 and G will be its sound and feel which was another top priority for PING engineers. The G400 utilizes a new internal rib structure to deliver acoustics and feel that are more muted and crisp than was found in previous models. As has been the case with recent PING driver releases consumers will have three models to choose from. The standard G400 will fit the widest array of players and is available in lofts of 9 and 10.5 degrees. It features a new stock shaft in the Alta CB which is slightly counterbalanced to pair well with a heavier clubhead (206 grams) to maximize energy transfer at impact. PING does however offer additional aftermarket shaft options for players to choose from. All G400 drivers also feature a lightweight adjustable hosel that offers five settings to adjust loft by +/- 1 degree as well as the driver’s lie angle to help players optimize ball flight. The stock length for the PING G400 driver is 45 3/4 inches and the swingweight is D3.
