Amidst a rising tide of youth suicides in the Wairarapa region, a group of young Māori, led by Tawaroa Kawana, unites to compose a poignant song that celebrates their iwi of Rangitane. • DOCUMENTARY SYNOPSIS: In recent years, the Wairarapa region has experienced a disturbing increase in youth suicide rates. To combat some of the issues that are impacting rangatahi of the Wairarapa, former New Zealand‘s Got Talent contestant and vocalist for the group Maimoa, Tawaroa Kawana, leads an initiative to engage rangatahi in music and use waiata as a form of healing and connection. Through music, the group of young Māori - Tini Whetū - seek to reconnect with their cultural roots and empower themselves and their peers. Their journey to reimagine an iwi anthem, 'Tū Mai Rā', showcases the transformative power of art and storytelling in addressing complex social issues. • ARTIST QUOTE: What made me want to come back to the Wairarapa and help serve the people was hearing that there are many rangatahi going before their time.
