The Short-faced bear is a genus of the bear that mostly inhabited North America around 1.8 million years ago, during the Pleistocene epoch. Not only is it one of the main prehistoric ancestors of the bear, but it's also one of the better-known ones, being quite common in the State of California. There are two official species of the short-faced bear, one is the lesser short-faced bear and the other is the giant short-faced bear, which as his name implies, is one of the largest carnivores in existence. However, they became extinct roughly 11,000 years ago. There's a very high chance that they were exclusively carnivores, as there was no evidence of any vegetation in the fossils found so far, with them believed to require around 16 kilograms of flesh per day to survive. • The Giant Ground Sloth or the megalonyx is the ancestor of the Sloth and one of the biggest prehistoric animals of all, on top of having one of the widest distributions of any North American ground sloth, being contiguous with most of the United States and even extending as far North as Alaska. The Megalonyx used to live during the Pleistocene epoch, becoming extinct during the Quaternary and living mostly 2.4 million years to 11,000 years ago. The most notorious species of megalonyx was the M. jeffersonii, which measured around 3 meters and also weighed up to 1,000 kilograms. The megalonyx was a well-known herbivore, though there have been fossil evidence that the ground sloth might have also included meat in their diets as a supplement. • #shortfacedbear #groundsloth #megalonyx • ► SUBSCRIBE Hit the bell: / fivethings201. . • ► Facebook: / fivethings2018 • ► Twitter: / fivethings2018 • ► Blog: https://fivethings2018.blogspot.com/ • Music Credits: Suspense | Epic - Free Background Music For Videos - 'Dramatic Danger' • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCFLw...
