Wayman grew up in Oklahoma attending Oklahoma University and, although music rather than basketball was his passion, he was known to be one of the most heavily recruited basketball players. His accolades include 3-time Big Eight Conference Player of the year, and gold medal achiever as a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic basketball team. Wayman played professionally for the Indiana Pacers. Wayman Tisdale began his music career in 1995 with the release of his first album, Power Forward. Over the years he recorded 8 albums, with the album “Face to Face” reaching #1 on the Billboard contemporary jazz charts in 2001. Although diagnosed with cancer in 2007, Wayman was able to release what would be his final album, Rebound in 2008. Sadly, treatment and surgeries weren’t enough for Wayman and he died in May 2009.
