Other duties as assigned. What is that? Or maybe that's the point. • My pitch is that we abolish this competency from all job descriptions everywhere. Job competencies should be limited to skills and functions that are unique to the position and not broad expectations for every employee. They should be objective, measurable, and specific so that managers can assess their employees in those areas and train them to close proficiency gaps. Other duties cannot be measured, trained for, or evaluated. • Instead, let's strive for work cultures that encourage all team members to, well, behave like a team. Everyone is willing to step in even if it's outside of their daily norm. What does a work culture look like where an electrician volunteers to unclog a toilet simply because it needs to be done?
