Unearthed at Ugarit in 1932, the Ba’al au Foudre stele provides a window into the religious symbolism of the Late Bronze Age. Found near the Temple of Ba’al, this artifact depicts the storm god Ba’al wielding his divine power, embodying themes from the Ba’al Cycle. Ba'al is more than just a demon in the Bible and not just an ancient god of fertility. On the stele we see Ba’al, the storm god, in his iconic role as protector. It blends Egyptian, Hittite, and Ugaritic artistic elements. Was this artifact tied to Ugarit’s temple rebuilding after disaster? We will explore how this stele connects myth, art, and history, shaping our understanding of one of the Bronze Age’s most enduring deities. • #baal #ugarit #ancienthisotry #baalcycle #ancientmythology #ancientreligion • Some sources: • Cornelius, Izak (1994).
