St. Joseph Vaz shrine MUDIPU Mangalore • Mudipu Church St. Joseph Vaz shrine • St. Joseph Vaz shrine MUDIPU, Miracle Hill, Mangalore • The #Mudipu St. Joseph Vaz #shrine is located on the #hill , which is commonly referred to as the #MiracleHill , in #bantwala , a district in #dakshinakannada that is 25 kilometers east of #Mangalore's city. • In 1681, St. Joseph Vaz was appointed to Ullal- Panir and gained the favor of the locals by his candor, kindness, acts of service and generosity. However, a few individuals became frustrated with his popularity and attempted to assassinate him. One evening in 1684, they visited • Fr. Joseph Vaz and asked him to anoint a sick person on their deathbed in the community. Fr. Joseph Vaz followed them, but they took him to an abandoned area on the top of Mudipu that was devoid of people and attempted to murder him. Fr. Vaz knelt, raised his hands and pressed his staff into the ground and prayed. What a miracle! From the location of his knee injury and the staff, streams of water spilled out and a bright light illuminated his surroundings. Those who witnessed this event fled in terror.
