The Kolomeyka (Kolomeike, Kolomejka) is a lively Ukrainian folk dance. In this fiddle lesson I demonstrate the tune at medium and fast tempos, with suggestions for ornamentation. Ukraine has a rich fiddle tradition, and there are at least 6,000 different kolomeyka tunes. Some ,like this one, are also part of the klezmer repertoire. The source recording for this one is on an album by Bukovina klezmer fiddler Leon Schwartz, called Like in a different world . I use on-screen sheet music throughout, and a free pdf of the sheet music for Kolomeyka is available to subscribers (see below).
