So, memorise the picture, and you’ll memorize the drug names. Let’s go!! • Today, we will go over types antifungals and examples within each class. To remind you of this, are the giant mushrooms along the back of the picture. In this scene the amphibian monster has trapped prisoners in these holes. Luckly for them, their friends have come to save them.. • In this picture are four main classes of antifungals, and also some other commonly used antifungal drugs. • Polyenes: Amphotericin • First up, are the polyenes, of which the most commonly used one is Amphotericin. AMPH-ibian TEARS. • Imidazoles: Ketoconazole, miconazole, clotrimazole • Next are the IMIDazoles, represented by the MIDDLE hOLE.) These drugs end in -azole which sounds similar to “a hole”. The KEY is KE-toconazole, the MIC-rophone is MIC-onazole, and the CLOTH is CLO-trimazole. • Triazoles: Fluconazole, Itraconazole, Voriconazole • Another class are the TRI-azoles, represented by the TRI-angular hOLE. The thermometer with the FLU, is FLU-conazole, the train TRACK, is I-TRAC-onazole, and the VOR-tex is VOR-iconazole. • Echinocandins: Caspofungin • Next up are the Echinocandins. An example is CASPO-FUNG-in represented by CASPO the FUNGALLY ghost. • Others: • Some other commonly used antifungals include griseofulvin, terbinafine, and flycytosine. GRIZZLY is GRIS-eofulvin, wind TURBINE is TERBIN-afine, and the thermometer representing the FLU, with a stubbed TOE or FLU TOE is FLU-cy-TO-sine.
