Braňo Hronec – Odplávaj odíď odcestuj disco Slovakia 1977

In 1977 Braňo Hronec created first bigger Czechoslovak disco project, recorded it with his band “Orchester Braňa Hronca” (also known in English version as “Branjo Sound”). He spent lot of time on concert tours around Europe, he was confronted with the newest musical styles, and then he brought them home to Slovakia. This disco LP, where we can find 8 disco songs following attacca and built in a bit minimalistic musical conception, was meant not only for dancing, but also for listening. Most of the lyrics are full of hidden means that were strongly anti-political. Braňo Hronec was that time interpret, who was used by communist government to represent Czechoslovakia as a modern country on the Western stages. As a “word of thanks” communist received such a music, that was telling to its listeners “Odplávaj, odíď, odcestuj”. Name of this song means in translation “Sail away, leave, drive off!” Rest of the songs lyrics have similar “second” means. People living in Czechoslovakia understood correctly, that it was not about non-functional relationship of two partners (first meaning), but about non-functional country where they live (second meaning). It´s just interesting, that still today we can find many people, that hesitate to understand full interpretation of these lyrics and consider music of Braňo Hronec as stupid and primitive. Luckily, not only musically, but also poetically are these songs one of those very rebellious pieces, that were by mistake supported by Czechoslovak government.
