However, if a cold roof has been incorrectly installed without proper ventilation, it may become necessary to consider mushroom vents as an option to improve ventilation. Building control authorities typically do not approve mushroom vents as a suitable ventilation solution for new construction of cold roofs. Still, they may accept them as a retrofit option to enhance ventilation in an existing roof with ventilation deficiencies. • • I frequently receive inquiries from customers whose roofing projects have not been approved by building control due to inadequate ventilation. In such cases, proposing the addition of mushroom vents to rectify the ventilation issue is often met with approval. The challenge with retrofitting ventilation in a cold roof is that it assumes the presence of a ventilation channel beneath the roof. Unless the initial roof construction had ventilation in mind, this channel may have been blocked or nonexistent. The method demonstrated in this video allows air to flow down the gaps between the joists if ventilation exists at the opposite end (cross ventilation) or enables air to move from one mushroom vent to another, thereby improving airflow and reducing the risk of moisture accumulation in the roof void. • • Steven Dickinson • London Flat Roofing • 07802300099 • [email protected] • • #shorts • #londonflatroofing • #londonroofsurveyor • #steveroofer • • Storm damaged roofs in London • Roof surveys • Roof surveyor • London Roof surveys and inspections • Roof consultancy • Roof consultancy and roof condition reports • Domestic roof survey • Flat roof condition report • Independent roof surveyor • Leak detection roofing
