Use a Blazer Torch to give furniture a distressed look and bring out the wood's natural grain. • This method, based on the Japanese Shou-sugi-ban technique of preserving/antiquing wood creates a unique eye-catching look unlike those found using stains or dyes. • Burning embellishments can range from complete blackening, or charring, to light caramelization that will add a unique glow and warmth to the wood. • Blazer Product torches are ideal for fine detail work as well. Create a centerpiece for any room by bringing out these fine grain details. • Torching wood is also used to build up resistance to woods natural affinity to catch fire. • Applying heat and fire to the exterior of a wood product for a short period of time changes both the cellular structure and thermodynamic conductivity of the wood. This effect is achieved by burning off one component of wood, the flammable cellulose, leaving behind the tougher and harder to ignite lignin. • By torching off the cellulose you're removing the fuel for fires and leaving behind the lignin, which takes a higher temperature to ignite. This means you have a tougher piece of fire-resistant wood.
