Professor Peter van Tour returns to the show to discuss his recently published 2-volume edition of Francesco Durante's (1684-1755) Regole and Partimenti. This first volume, forming the initial part of his curriculum, contains Durante’s partimento rules alongside figured partimenti. The second volume of Francesco Durante’s (1684–1755) Regole e Partimenti features his partimenti diminuiti followed by an impressive collection of twenty-one imitative partimenti, most likely composed by other Neapolitan composers. • Durante’s curriculum invites students to imitate and vary figured cadences, scales, and sequences. These exercises were typically demonstrated by the teacher through variations in each key and enabled students to master them in multiple ways, allowing them to reapply and combine these patterns improvisationally. Durante’s partimenti offer some of the best instructional content available, with their structured yet flexible approach making them invaluable for teaching both figured bass and compositional concepts. • https://www.wessmans.com/Article/2024... • https://www.wessmans.com/Article/2024... • https://www.wessmans.com/Article/2024... • https://vantour.se/ • 🖥 For lessons, in-depth articles, and resources on historic music pedagogy, visit the Hogan School of Music website: • ► https://hoganschoolofmusic.com • X: https://x.com/nikhilhoganshow • Facebook: / nikhilhoganshow2 • Instagram: / nikhilhoganshow • TikTok: / nikhilhoganshow • Telegram: @nikhilhogan_show • 🎧Listen to the Nikhil Hogan Show on your favorite podcast app: • ►Podcast Page: https://bit.ly/3L5vcKv • ►RSS: https://bit.ly/3L5zf9w • ►iTunes: https://apple.co/3ddtIRH • ►Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3RV64s6
