On October 9, 2012, she went missing after getting down from a bus near the bathing ghat, and her body was discovered the next day in Mannasanka, raising serious concerns about safety in the region. Just days later, Santosh Rao was handed over to the police by locals, suspecting him to be involved in the crime. However, in June 2023, the CBI court in Bengaluru acquitted Santosh Rao, stating that there was no strong evidence to prove his involvement. Even Soujanya’s parents believe he is not the real culprit, which raises a critical question: Why did the police, CID, and even the CBI fail to properly investigate this case and find those responsible? • The case has taken many turns, with multiple agencies, Including the Belthangady police, CID, and CBI, handling the investigation over the years. Despite these efforts, justice has not been served, and the real perpetrators remain unidentified. Meanwhile, many locals have expressed doubts and questioned the role of influential figures, In 2012 to ensure a thorough investigation. However, many people ask, was that really enough? Why is justice still delayed? Shouldn’t those with power ensure that crimes in such a significant place do not go unresolved? • This case has also sparked broader discussions about women’s safety in pilgrimage sites and across Karnataka. Many residents claim that similar incidents have happened in the area, and that people don’t make accusations without reason. Their day-to-day experiences, interactions, and observations have led them to believe that there could be deeper layers to this case that remain hidden. The CBI has now filed an appeal in the Karnataka High Court, and Soujanya’s father, Chandappa Gowda, has demanded a fresh investigation. Additionally, Santosh Rao, who was acquitted, has filed a petition seeking ₹50 lakh in compensation, claiming that he was falsely implicated. All three petitions have been combined, and the next hearing is scheduled for April 8, where a division bench of the Karnataka High Court will review the case. • The Soujanya case remains a symbol of justice delayed, and the public continues to demand answers and accountability. This video takes an in-depth look at the case, the investigation flaws, the legal proceedings, and the unanswered questions that still haunt Karnataka today.
