In a clubbed finger, Lovibond ange is lost. Normal Lovibond angle is less than 165. • Causes of clubbed nails are: • Lung cancer • Interstitial lung disease • Mesothelioma • Congenital cyanotic heart disease • Subacute bacterial endocarditis • Tetrology of Fallot (TOF) • Malabsorption • Crohn's disease • Ulcerative colitis • Cirrhosis of liver • Grave's disease • What is the pathophysiology of clubbing? • Answer: Exact pathophysiology of clubbed toenails or clubbed fingers is unknown. However, some causes have been proposed. Most important proposed suggestions include vasodilation, growth factors and abnormalities in prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) metabolism. • What is the treatment of clubbing? • Answer: There is no specific treatment for the clubbed nails, either finger or toenails. It can be reversed if the underlying cause is diagnosed and treated on early basis. Reversal is unlikely if the disease is advanced, standing for a long period of time or collagen deposition has occurred. However, it has been reported that clubbed fingers in a patient with pachydermoperiostosis responded to etoricoxib. No surgical procedures are available for clubbing except excising the tumor of the other causes causing the clubbing. Hope it clears everything. • Do Not Forget to Subscribe! • More Videos: • 1.
