Wine-Searcher's Wine Director David Allen MW tastes an Australian Riesling - a favorite style of his - tasting Pikes Traditionale Clare Valley Riesling 2021. • The Pike family - Henry., Emma and their children - came to Australia in 1878. Henry had learned brewing in his native Dorset and by 1886 he had built their own winery. The brewing business prospered for 40-years , but declined in the 1940s with the family choosing to produce soft drinks instead. Edgar Wallace Pike (Henry's great grandson) became a farmer and then a vineyard manager. By 1970 the soft drinks business was sold. Edgars sons Andrew and Neil Followed ther father into viticulture and winemaking. • In 1984 the two brothers, with the support of their parents bought a 27 hectare vineyard in the Polish Hill River sub-region of the Clare Valley. They produced their first Riesling in 1985.
