Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus (Herpes Varicella). It occurs in people who have been infected with the chicken pox virus at a time later in life when their immune system is compromised or during a time of stress. • The shingles vaccine reduces the risk of having shingles 51% in patients age 60 and older.
