Dance is celebrated as the defining means of expression at the turn of the last century around 1900. Loïe Fuller, an icon of dance, had developed the serpentine dance with extravagant flowing fabrics. In contrast to gentle and dreamlike movements of other choreographies of that time, Fuller's dance embodies dynamic movement and the dissolution of the body into form, colour and light.
