Planting the Little Bluestem Prairie Patch

This (rather large) plot of ground will be the test area for our Oak Savanna restoration project with this planting of little bluestem grass. The first step was to thoroughly kill everything that was currently growing there, which was 95% weeds. The ground was then tilled, and any new weeds that wanted to grow were allowed to do so -- and then those were killed as well. • Today, I raked out the furrows left by the tiller so there was no depressions for seed to gather in and also to scarify the ground a bit to get good seed contact. • The seed was mixed with sand to extend it and allow better dispersal -- but I still ran out roughly half way through. I ordered another pound immediately, and hopefully the seed arrives much quicker than the last batch which took like a month. It WAS planting season at the time, so maybe they are not so busy now.
