Lighting your reef tank doesn't need to be hard. Depending on the corals you can pick a light that matches what they need. Looking for zoanthids, xenia, or other soft corals? Probably you can get away with a smaller, cheaper light. Want lots of acropora in your aquarium? You'll need high power lights that can produce the PAR levels they need throughout your tank. • From metal halide bulbs to T5 lights and into the LED lights that are so common today, you have a lot of options to light your reef. For in depth videos all about specific lights, Bulk Reef Supply has a great series of videos on their account under BRS TV. I'd recommend checking them out if you really want to learn the specifics of various lights. • I started with a metal halide light over a tiny nano reef tank many years ago. It worked great, and even to this day metal halide lights are sort of the gold standard that a lot of other lights are compared to. The problem with metal halides though is that they get super hot, which means you need to cool your tank somehow. They also use a lot of electricity - and of course if you use a chiller that also uses a lot. LEDs like those from AI, Ecotech Marine, Orphek, and Kessil are much more efficient and produce high quality light that will keep your corals happy. • Don't forget to like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video! • I upload at least one video each week, so check out my channel for more! • https://www.youtube.com/c/ReefMan?sub...
