Chase Twichell reads her poem 'Savin Rock', which recalls and questions her memory of being 'the girl who was eventually returned to her family unharmed'. In September 2009, Pamela Robertson-Pearce filmed Chase Twichell reading a selection of poems from her book HORSES WHERE THE ANSWERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN at her home in the Keene Valley in the Adirondacks. This is where Chase Twichell spent many summers and vacations during her childhood and where her father's family had gone for many generations. The rocking-horse seen in the film is a recently restored relic from her childhood. Savin Rock was an amusement park on the Connecticut coast which was demolished in the 1960s. The two greatest influences on Chase Twichell's life and work have been her early intimacy with wilderness in the Adirondacks followed by her years as a Zen Buddhist student of John Daido Loori at Zen Mountain Monastery in the Catskills. • Chase Twichell's work is used on this film with the permission of Bloodaxe Books and Copper Canyon Press, publishers of her Selected Poem HORSES WHERE THE ANSWERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN (2010) in the UK and US respectively. For more details see http://www.bloodaxebooks.com/titlepag... for the Bloodaxe UK edition or http://www.coppercanyonpress.org/cata... for the Copper Canyon US edition. Pamela Robertson-Pearce has been filming poets reading their work for Bloodaxe's archive, website and DVD-books. Her first DVD-book, IN PERSON (edited by Neil Astley), was published by Bloodaxe in 2008, including films of 30 poets with an anthology containing all the poems read on the films. More footage from the film of Chase Twichell will be made available at a later date.
