The English dramatically prolong the siege of Fort Henry. Munro will send a courier to Fort Edward to order reinforcements. But General Webb will then decide to sacrifice Fort Henry in order to save his troops for the defense of Fort Edward. The courier heads back toward Fort Herny, but his journey is cut short when the Huron capture him. Before breathing his last breath, the courier is able to forward an urgent message to Hawk Eye and the Mohicans who have just intervened. Our friends reach Fort Henry in order to warn Munro that General Webb will not be sending the expected reinforcements, but Munro doesn’t want to hear such news coming from the mouth of Hawkeye. A heated argument ensues between the two of them, but Munro stands firm in his decision, having accused Hawkeye of wanting to incite the militia thereby placing him under arrest. While Hawkeye is locked away in the fortress prison, Muagua reaches Montcalm’s encampment with Webb’s dispatch.
