In this video, I discuss a problem with a 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5L. The instrument cluster had several lights illuminated: Check Engine, Cruise Control, and Vehicle Dynamics Control. The vehicle shuddered under load, which felt very much like a single cylinder misfire. I pulled a P0301 code with my scan tool, which means the system detected a misfire in cylinder 1. After further inspection, I found that the spark plugs and spark plug wires were original to the car (114k+ miles) and that the spark energy for cylinder 1 had been leaking out through the spark plug boot and grounding out on the spark plug tube in the cylinder head. A replacement of all 4 spark plugs as well as the spark plug wires is what fixed this vehicle. I cleared the P0301 code with my scan tool - and this took care of the cruise control and the VDC lights as well. Pretty typical that a check engine light triggers the other two on these cars. • I highly recommend replacing spark plugs on these cars every 50k miles. • I created this video with the YouTube Video Editor ( / editor )
