This is one of my most treasured Soundtrack moments from the movie, Rob Roy. I can't tell you how much this song has haunted me down the years. I can hear it a million times and still cry as if it's my first. • The song is a traditional Scottish lament that dates back to 1788 and tells the tale of a sailor, Ailein Moireasdan ( or 'Alan in English ) who was a sea captain sailing from Stornoway to Scalpay to marry his love, Annag ( or Annie in English ). Unfortunately, he sails right into a storm and perishes with his ship.
