A Stripe necked mongoose or Herpestes vitticollis digs up soil looking to find insects and tubers to eat in a grassland in a central Indian forest. • It finds a large yellow tuber and happily munches on it! • Stripe-Necked Mongoose are the largest mongoose species in Asia. They have a body length between 43 and 53 cms (17 - 20.8 inches), a tail length between 30 and 32 cms (11.8 - 12.6 inches) and they weigh between 1.3 and 2.7 kgs (2.9 - 6 lbs). They have a stout build and short legs. • They are brown to grizzled grey in colour and they have a black stripe on both sides of their neck. Their tail is mainly black with grey colouration at the base. • Stripe-Necked Mongoose can be found in forested areas of southern India and Sri Lanka.
