We continue to replace precious green zones, which absorb grey water, with impervious surfaces such as concrete and asphalt. These surfaces promote the redirection of storm water directly into our waterways. Permeable paving uses purpose designed segmental paving units, and specially graded base material which allows up to 95% of surface storm water to infiltrate through the pavement surface. • Rather than pooling on the pavement surface, or running into drains, excess surface water flows through the special voids in the pavement, filtering into the selected sub-base aggregate.
