How to Cut Penetrations in Mass Loaded Vinyl

Be sure to use basic installation techniques outlined in this video series to achieve the strong STC indicated by the lab tests. This includes properly cutting penetrations (allowing a MAX gap of 1/4 around any penetration) and being sure to use STC rated putty pads behind junction boxes. • Mass Loaded Vinyl is easily cut to fit around irregular objects and electrical boxes. The material should be cut around outlets, switches, and junction boxes. Any gaps should then be sealed with acoustical caulk upon drywall installation. • Gaps shall be less 1/8”. If greater, they shall be sealed with acoustical caulk.
