He is considered the greatest Venetian composer of the late Renaissance, one of the most important musicians of his time and a textbook example of the changing zeitgeist that marked the beginning of a new era: the Baroque. Upon his death in 1612, Gabrieli left an exceptional oeuvre of instrumental music, in which genres such as the canzona, sonata and motet are represented.
