In Cambodia, vegetable farmers have worked with university researchers to start growing their crops inside nethouses. This innovation reduces the farmers' need for pesticides, allows them to sell to premium markets, and provides flexibility for adapting to environmental challenges. • The nethouses are one technology that researchers and students from UC Davis, the Royal University of Agriculture, and the University of Battambang have been working together on, to improve food safety and strengthen vegetable value chains -- with support from the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Horticulture. • After understanding farmers' needs, making valuable connections with markets, growing a network of engaged stakeholders along the value chain, and engaging private entrepreneurs -- the team is witnessing greater adoption of nethouses. • More Cambodian farmers are now using nethouses to improve their family’s resilience, diversify their income, and increase stability in the face of economic and environmental challenges -- helping to transform the food system in Cambodia. • More about this project: https://horticulture.ucdavis.edu/proj... • More about nets and nethouses: https://horticulture.ucdavis.edu/nets • The Horticulture Innovation Lab is a global research network that advances fruit and vegetable innovations, empowering smallholder farmers to earn more income while better nourishing their communities. The program is funded by USAID and led by UC Davis, as part of the U.S. government's Feed the Future initiative. More: https://horticulture.ucdavis.edu/
