It Can't Happen Here is a 1936 play based upon Sinclair Lewis's classic novel and was adapted by John C. Moffitt in collaboration with the author. Set in Ft. Beulah, Vermont, it chronicles the townspeople's responses to the rise of fascist leader Buzz Windrip and the impact on their lives following his election. His chief resisters in the local press, Doremus Jessup and Lorinda Pike, warn their family, friends, and neighbors, as well as the audience, that these events could occur very soon - or never. • 1.
