The house sparrow is invasive in North America and has caused devastating issues among cavity nesting bird populations. • House sparrows kill both nestlings and adult birds. But there is another invasive old world sparrow in North American - the Eurasian Tree Sparrow. • The Eurasian Tree Sparrow is not as widespread, but in many isolated states where it is found, it is not protected. It is also not federally protected by the MBTA. • Both sparrows look very similar. Many will confuse them.
