Castle Altenburg / Thuringia, Germany / Schloss Altenburg / Thüringen, Deutschland • Altenburg is another beautiful city in Thuringia Germany with a population of 33,000 and is a short 40 kilometers south of Leipzig which makes for a great day trip. Their are many historical building's, church's and museums thru out the townsite, the most popular site is the Castle of Altenburg. The historic city center features Grunderzeit architecture and hosts a large outdoor market where locals gather during the day to eat and do their shopping for local foods and crafts.
