New Subaru Outback Design LEAKED Here’s What to Expect in 2026

Hard to believe, but this model’s been going strong since 1995, and as of June, Subaru hit a huge milestone: over 3 million Outbacks sold in the U.S.! Even though 2024 saw the Outback slide just behind the Crosstrek and Forester, it’s still within 6,000 units of first place with sales up nearly 3% this year. But big news—Subaru’s already gearing up for the next-gen Outback, which is set to launch in 2026! • Recently, spy shots captured the Outback’s bold new look as it hit the testing phase. Despite the camo, we can see some serious styling upgrades. The design is leaning more SUV-like, with a boxier frame, squared-off body, and those eye-catching trapezoidal wheel arches. Subaru’s even reshaped the grille, which is now more rectangular with an indent on top for the iconic badge. The headlights going for a two-piece, modern look, with thin LED running lights up top and a boxy main unit below. Plus, we’ve got tall roof rails and round fog lamps making an appearance in the bumper. • On the side, Subaru’s gone with straight, bold lines, ditching the curves of the current model. There’s still a slight kick-up near the back door, adding some character, and the rear is heavily camouflaged, but it looks like Subaru’s toying with a new taillight design—possibly a full-width light bar. • Now, we don’t have all the details yet, but the Outback could come with a hybrid powertrain option. Subaru’s confirmed that the Forester will get a hybrid setup by 2026, so it’s likely the Outback will follow suit. Expect something similar to the current flat-four engine lineup. The 2.5-liter and turbocharged 2.4-liter engines might even carry over, with a few updates.
