The Audi Valvelift system is a cam lobe swapping type. Audi engines have already been carrying the variable valve timing for many years, and this is an addition of valve lift. Compared with Honda or Toyota systems, Audi is a simpler and more efficient system. It actuates the variable lift, without using complex intermediate shafts, like hydraulically operated rocker arms, and it saves space and weight while reducing frictional loss. How can Audi do that? the answer is in the Valvelift system, which the cam pieces, can slide in a longitudinal direction to change the actuating cams. In other words, the cam lobes slide back and fourth. • Each valve can be actuated by a fast cam at half an inch, or a slow cam at a quarter inch in the intake valve, and sixteenth of an inch in the other valve, so as to create swirl in the air flow for better fuel atomization at low speed. The two cams are mounted on a single camshaft piece, which acts on the roller cam follower, depending on the longitudinal position of cam piece. The entire actuation process is ... • Get the whole story right here in this video... Enjoy...
