/ donthefawnbook Saw a fawn wandering along the edge of a busy narrow road at the bottom of a steep mountain.By the time we found a place to turn around a couple on a motor cycle and 2 young men had already stopped. only about 2 days old it seemed to be in pretty good shape. we figured it must have somehow rolled or stumbled down the mountain. There was no way to climb back to the top with it. Normally you should never remove a fawn from an area because the mom should come back looking for it ( if nothing has happened to her) but we couldn't leave it there it surely would be hit by a car. Rhonda didn't want to part with it and if she had a small enough helmet that fawn would have been on the back of that Harley. It was getting late and it was decided that we would take it home and then figure out what to do . Called her Dawn then found out she was a Don later. Made several calls and got in contact with a girl who runs a wildlife rehab facility about an 1 1/2 hours away. Early the next morning we were on our way and delivered him to her. She was the real deal and we felt totally comfortable leaving the fawn in her care. Happy to report Don is doing great and already has 2 new fawn friends. He will be raised with little human contact then released into a private no hunting allowed area when he is ready.
