Toxic foam coated the surface of the Yamuna River in New Delhi as authorities grapple with extreme pollution in the Indian capital, Wednesday, November 6. • Large amounts of the white foam flowed in the Yamuna following an announcement by officials declaring a health emergency as a result of the air quality in New Delhi. • Worshippers taking part in Chhath Puja, a regional Hindu festival, entered and prayed in the river, which was covered in the chemical foam. • Meanwhile toxic air levels in New Delhi have come down by more than half since the emergency was declared November 1. • That is when air pollution in the city peaked due to smog from festival fireworks and smoke from the burning of stubbles in agricultural fields.
