It starts moving and reaches to city B at 11 am, we can say that Car was in motion between 10 am to 11 am. • Assuming the distance between city A and city B is 20 kilometre, we can say that car has travelled 20 Kilometre in 1 hour. • Now imagine, there is a truck which was there in city A at 10 am. It starts moving and reaches in city B at 10:30 AM. For this truck, We can say: Truck was in motion between 10 am to 10:30 am. • As the distance between cities is 20 kilometre, we can say that truck has travelled 20 Kilometre in 30 minutes. • • So truck is faster as it travelled same distance in less time. • An object can be faster compared to an other object in 2 scenarios: • Scenario 1: • It travels same distance in less time. For example, if a bike travels 50 kilometre in 1 hour and a car travels 50 kilometre in 2 hours, bike is faster than car as it took less time to travel given distance. • Scenario 2: • It travels more distance in a given time. For example, if a bike travels 50 kilometre in 1 hour and a car travels 25 kilometre in 1 hour, bike is faster than car as it travelled more distance in given time. • In our day to day life, we use scenario 2 to measure the fastness or slowness. We measure the distance travelled by object in an unit time, which is also known as speed. • Speed equals distance travelled divided by time taken. • if a bike travels 50 kilometre in 1 hour, then it's speed is 50 kilometre per hour. • If a car travels 50 kilometre in 2 hours, then it's speed is 25 kilometre per hour. • More the speed, faster the object travels. • SI unit of speed is metre per second. • You can use multiple and sub multiple to create other units. If, instead of metre, we use kilometre and instead of second, we use hour, new unit of speed becomes kilometre per hour. • In our bike's milometer, speed is mentioned in kilometre per hour.
