In todays video I will be turning 3d prints into solid copper by using a method called lost PLA metal casting. I start by 3d printing the pumpkins in a plastic called PLA. Then after attaching sprues, I dip the models into a liquid ceramic material called Suspendaslurry. After 9 coats the plastic can now be melted out of the ceramic shells. I melted copper in my homemade metal melting furnace and then poured it into the shells while they were about 1500° Fahrenheit. The next day I removed the shell to reveal the castings. Not too much work was involved in cleaning these up but I did darken them with liver of sulfur and apply a clear coat to finish them off. • I purchased the model used from this artist.
