There’s blood on the vault! Eeek! That’s what happens when you do vault after uneven bars. It’s nothing that a little disinfectant spray and elbow grease can’t take care of. Here Whitney keeps practicing her Yerchenko vault. Soon she will start to transition her tuck position into a layout. The level 9 vault needs to be a Yerchenko layout in order to get a 10.0 start value. Should be exciting! The Yurchenko was named after Soviet gymnast Natalia Yurchenko. • In a Yurchenko vault, the gymnast does a round-off onto the springboard and a back handspring onto the horse or vaulting table. The gymnast then performs a salto, which may range in difficulty from a simple single tuck to a triple twist layout. Any vault with a roundoff-back handspring entry is classified as a Yurchenko-style vault in the Code of Points. Many variations of the original vault have been introduced by gymnasts in international competitions.
