Musicians, patrons, an architect, and a wide variety of North Philadelphia neighbors tell the story of the famed but closed Uptown Theater. An effort has been organized to revive this show place that played a critical role in the Rhythm and Blues cultural revolution of the 1950's and 60's. This film includes the last interview with famed impresario and radio personality Georgie Woods. • The Uptown Theater opened in 1928 for the Stanley Warner chain. From 1951 to 1978, the theater hosted big-name R B and Motown acts. Leading the renovation is the Uptown Entertainment and Development Corporation (UEDC), a Community Development Corporation that was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)3 charitable organization.
